Making of the Beach Series
It’s getting colder, here are some wonderful summer pieces to warm you and your doll.
The idea for these and the work process was a few years in the making. I had painted several designs of starfish with watercolours and had the images printed onto cotton. There was a lot of cutting, stitching and dyeing involved as well as quite a variety of materials. There is Holland Felt, home-made jump rings & hammered clasps, eyelets, seed beads, lace, tulle, cotton, cotton batting, knotted cord, corals, silks and semi-precious stones. I grew up fascinated with gemstones, the ones in the Beach series include one or more of Peridot, Garnet, Labradorite, Aquamarine, Blue Topaz, Tourmaline and Carnelian. I chose these to represent another love of mine, sea glass. Every colour of sea glass has its own interesting history. I can say after sharing all this that these necklaces are a Nautical Romance.
I have quite a few different sized dolls. Some have smaller necks and torsos. I looked into ways that I could allow different sized dolls to wear the same piece. Actually, a lot of my time is spent deliberating on the cording and length. The Beach pieces have multiple fits and wears. For example, most ball-jointed slim mini dolls can use 3 different lengths with the clasp connected. You will see more model photos in the sales pages because I went overboard, actually one of the delays sharing these is because right after taking all my model and item photos, my laptop immediately died, and well, I didn’t back them up ^^; Here you can see one of the pieces worn by AtelierMomoni’s doll, Momoni and Fairyland’s Feeple60, Rin:
